چکیده

Methods From 2006 till end of 2011, 37 patients with aneurysm of the ascending aorta without involvement of the aortic root underwent longitudinal reduction aortoplasty supported by pericardial patch which was sewed to the lateral wall of the ascending aorta by 5/0 prolene. The average age was 70.9 year ±4.2, females were 28 (75.7%), the average ejection fraction was 42.1%. The size of the ascending aorta was less than 55 mm in all patients; all patients underwent other cardiac procedure at the same time. 33 patients (89%) aortic valve replacement, 22 patients (59.5%) aortic valve replacement with CABG, 4 patients (11%) CABG alone, 7 patients (19%) were redo aortic valve replacement. Mean follow-up was 2 year.

Aortic root stability in bicuspid aortic valve disease: patch augmentation plus reduction aortoplasty versus modified David type repair.

OBJECTIVES The unreinforced aortic root, in bicuspid aortic valve disease, has been shown to dilate and cause recurrent regurgitation. The objective of this study was to determine whether reduction aortoplasty can reliably prevent aortic root dilatation after aortic valve repair in bicuspid disease. METHODS A total of 66 patients, with a mean age of 41.2±12 years and with incompetent bicuspid...

Congenital Aortico-Left Ventricular Tunnel: A Case Report of a Rare Cause of Aortic Regurgitation in Adults

The aortico-left ventricular tunnel is a rare congenital abnormality resulting in a pathologic connection between the aorta and the left ventricle. It often presents during infancy or early childhood as a cardiac failure symptom or an incidental finding of a cardiac murmur due to severe aortic regurgitation. It is, however, also occasionally found in asymptomatic adults. We describe a 20-year-o...

Primary Coronary Angioplasty versus Intravenous Thrombolysis for Acute Myocardial Infarction - a Comparative Study at Queen Alia Heart Institute

Objectives: To assess the results of primary coronary angioplasty in comparison to thrombolytic therapy for the treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction, and to compare the time from arrival of a patient with acute myocardial infarction at the coronary care unit of Queen Alia Heart Institute to having reperfusion therapy. Methods: This is a retrospective study looking at consecuti...

Coarctation of aorta repair at the National Heart Institute (1983-1994).

This retrospective study illustrates our approach to this problem over the years, from performing subclavian flap aortoplasty initially to the more accepted procedure now, which is resection and end-to-end anastomosis. Coarctation of aorta in our population is seen in a varying age groups and are also associated with other cardiac anomalies including both acyanotic and cyanotic congenital cardi...

Fatal aortic rupture during balloon dilatation of recoarctation.

In an eight year old boy with a patch aortoplasty, the aorta ruptured during balloon angioplasty for recoarctation. At necropsy a 1.5 cm long, full thickness tear and a separate, smaller, intimal tear were found. Histological examination showed thinning of the elastic laminae of the aorta. Angioplasty for recoarctation may be dangerous in patients with a patch aortoplasty.
